Hi I’m Heather!
A longtime freelance writer and editor from Colorado, Heather's work has appeared in several newspapers and magazines, including The Denver Post and Ladies' Home Journal. Most recently, her work has been published in 5280.com, Colorado Parent magazine, Outdoor Families Magazine, TripSavvy, Smarter Travel, and Travel Age West/Family Getaways, as well as the Huffington Post blog. She is also a former family blogger for Colorado Ski Country USA.
Our Story
Before Michael and I became parents in 2006 (and again in 2008), we loved to travel and feared having kids would mean sacrificing it. Instead we soon realized we could enjoy traveling just as much with our two boys in tow. Relaxing? Not really. But I wouldn't want it any other way.
I am a native of Colorado and love living in the same city where I grew up, Longmont. After completing my master's of journalism at CU Boulder in 2002, I wrote primarily freelance magazine articles until my first son was born, when I began honing my editing skills while becoming a stay-at-home mom. Since launching this site in 2014, I’ve specialized in writing about family and adventure travel, as well as parenting, for publications like Colorado Parent, TravelAge West (Explorer/Family Getaways), Outdoor Families Magazine, 5280.com, The Denver Post, Roam Family Travel, TripSavvy, and more. I’ve also been a blogger for HuffPost and Colorado Ski Country USA, and I’m the author of a guidebook, “Colorado Family Outdoor Adventure” (UNM Press, May 2022), part of the University of New Mexico Press Southwest Adventure Series.
